China 'trusts prostitutes more' (Tuesday, 4 August 2009)
Quote:
China's prostitutes are better-trusted than its politicians and scientists, according to an online survey published by Insight China magazine.

This summer the BBC conducted a survey (statistically valid?) that found the pecking order for trusting people in various professions is as follows:

1. farmers
2. religious workers
3. prostitutes
4. soldiers

Further down the list were:
politicians, scientists, teachers (the ranking of the latter two seems odd to me. Anyone can explain this?)

Way near the bottom were:

real estate developers
secretaries
agents
entertainers
directors (of what?)

Its probably more of honesty levels. Farmers came out first because they are too damn honest and get exploited most of the time. Religious workers are honest in the name of their gods. Won't be good if they lie a lot and ruin the reputation of that religion. Monks usually have good relationships with farmers. Prostitutes are usually daughters of farmers. Prostitutes in China rarely are drug addicts and mostly do this job to make money to help their family. They probably would have been in a dangerous factory if they didn't qualify to be a hooker. Soldiers are usually sons of farmers.

Farmers farmers farmers.... Maybe it is bias. But then yet again most of the population of China are farmers.

Found it in chinadaily. The official media published this article , anyway ,i prefer to think it's a good indication.

When politics revolved ,it's hard to trust any report,no truth ,only explanation.but usually you can get more important information, see what's the background and find out clues from the tone, you can see what's the direction of the policy .The news is just so so ,but reported by an official institute is something.

I took it as a positive sign same like "let's have fewer people who don't know the truth"

Facing the problem is the first step of change.Hope i am not overoptimistic.

My bad for saying that the BBC conducted this survey. Interesting though that respondents didn't regard teachers highly. Is this because Chinese only begin to value education highly once they have escaped subsistence living?

I think it's because everything the teachers say is the same as the government. You wont last long in any good school if you aren't repeating the "Truth"...
