what's the difference between 改变 and 变 ?
They both mean to change, transform... so what makes them different usage wise? For example: 来中国后, 他改变了对中国的看法。 天气变得越来越冷了。 谢谢 Basically, 改变 means initiative and 变 passiveness, or, the first one is a transitive verb, but the second one intransitive.
e.g. you can see 如果你不能改变社会,你就只能改变你自己。nodoby say 变社会. Similar with this, there is a book name as 他改变了中国, in here, we cannot say 他变了中国. for the 变, you can say 天气变暖了. you cannot say 天气改变暖了. This explanation opened my eyes for a new way of looking at the difference between 1 character verbs and 2 character verbs...
But I think it goes deeper than that... 我问我的老师。。。
改变: 想法, 看法, 方式, 习惯 变: 得(形), 越来越(形) I do think it goes deeper than that, but until then, i'll take the above ground point for now. Did you think the following 变 still is an adj?
1.变魔术 2.变天了 3.人生若只如初见,何事秋风悲画扇,等闲变却故人心,却道故人心易变 no...
but i'm not sure how to think about it in the passive/initiative form of view.. can you elaborate? Wobbles Wrote:

变 is a adj 0zhang9 Wrote:
------------------------------------------------------- > 改变 is a verb > 变 is a adj Good answer here though the difference is subtle, we choose by feelings not by rules.dont try to find a rule,it doesnt exist, dont afraid make mistake, the more mistake u made, the better feelings u get
as a learner, the best way is find the wrong case first and avoid it.改变 is often used。变 is often with “得”or“了” "dont try to find a rule,it doesnt exist"
This is the greatest bullshit I've ever read in this forum... Re: Difference between 改变 and 变

there is a rule, but yeah, sometimes with chinese its hard to explain, theres just sort of a 感觉... I think. 改变 is used when you say, can you change me? 能不能改变我? So it's better used as a verb. but... you could still use 变 as a verb too right? its not just an adjective like you can say: "我已经变了" hmm.. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
