Useful Chinese phrases to use in the restaurant

Hi there,

I was wondering if people could give me some useful phrases to use in the restaurant.

I was also wondering if asking this way seems impolite,

请给我。。。 (筷子,可口可乐,刀,叉 etc) and do I need to use 一个? (eg 请给我一个可口可乐)

And does it seem silly to say Ice Tea (e.g. like Nestea) as 冰茶

谢谢!

Anything start with 请 is polite enough. So dont worry about that.
When you ordering things you d better show waiter how many you want it. So you can say 一个(icecream)一杯(可口可乐). There are so many measure words in chinese, but I belive you can show one finger to waiter instead of all those complicated words, he can totally understand.spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
Good luck!

the ice tea thing may not work out, cause it can be understood as 'cold/freezing tea' but not the beverage you meant. Try 冰红茶(bing1 hong2 cha2) next time, and you're welcomesmiling smiley

Most restaurants I've went to understood Bing Cha as Iced tea. Though they may have more than one type so it's best to say specifically red, Green, Lemon or whatever flavour you want.

This is a great program for people who want to experience life in the Chinese culture
in-depth. The program has a focus on cultural exchange and host families are not only excited to learn English but also love to share the characteristics of their country, culture and cuisine.
The Need:
Volunteer 5-15 hours a week helping your host family with Conversational English or our partner schools(when you finish 50 hours to school, you will get TESOL for free). That's it. Or you can choose not to share. Many Chinese families want to learn English or get better at speaking English through conversation. They may also want to share Chinese culture and language to you. They are willing to provide a private room and sometimes breakfast & dinner each day.

Program fee can be as low as $30 per week. For more information, please visit www.sobeit.org or email scarlletbeit@gmail.com to apply for this program. We will get back to you in 24 hours, come and join it!
