Looking for Chinese textbooks for beginners

Hi!

I'm looking for some good (standard) Chinese textbooks for beginners. I've been studying Chinese in language course for about half a year so I know how to pronounce Chinese sounds and how to read pinyin but that's about all for now. I just want to learn for myself since the course is quite slow for me and I'll have 4-month lesson-less leisure time very soon. I've also been studying Japanese for a few years so I'm not "afraid" of all those 汉字.

Can you, please, recommend me a good textbook?
謝謝

I would highly recommend this book: Modern Mandarin Chinese Grammar (Modern Grammars)

Although, it's not too good to learn vocabulary, it's a great book.

Use the 你好 (Ni Hao) books or use Heisig's book for learning Chinese. I learned my first three years alone with Ni Hao, and I haven't started Heisig yet but I know people that have used it to learn just fine. (it does not teach Pinyin for the characters though, only meanings and how to recognize them, but largely useful). Good luck! smiling smiley

Hi! Learning Chinese is truly exciting. I'm sure there are many helpful learning Chinese books out there to suit your level. Have you tried Kuaile Hanyu and Chinese Made Easy? These books are highly recommended because they were specially designed for English speakers.Good luck!smiling bouncing smiley
