Magic of Tradition Chinese Treatment

Hello everyone

Yesterday my Chinese friend asked me to see a traditional Chinese doctor with her because he sprained her ankle. When he got tradition Chinese treatment, I saw masseur kneaded her ankle and foot. He got hurt but very useful after the treatment. After the massage, the masseur used self-made pain patch.Just a few days, the swelling has gone down.

I'm very curious about this amazing tradition Chinese medicine which differs a lot from our western medicine. Could anyone give me some introduction about this fantastic medicine?

Any direction will be all fine!

A couple of days for swelling to go down is normal regardless of the medicine.

To learn more about TCM take a look on wikipedia, lots of info there and some good links for it at the bottom.

It definitely has it's uses but I wouldn't rely solely on it anyway.

This TCM practice is more common in the south, especially in Guangzhou and HK where there are lots of martial artists who frequently break their bones or dislocate a joint. Hence the "sifu" spend a lot of years learning the art of healing and "bone-setting". The ointments used are also carefully stored (just like wine) for many years before they can be used. The secret ingredients for making the ointments are usually passed down through the generations within the family.

Here's the difference:
Western - break a bone or dislocate some joints. Go for an operation or use a plaster cast to allow for self-healing. Or maybe physiotherapy.

Chinese - bone-setters will join back dislocated joints and follow up with medicinal herbs to speed up healing. Sprains etc are rubbed vigorously to allow the blood to flow and to disperse blood clots, basically to restore the flow of qi. The process is painful but the Chinese believe that in old age, the pain will not manifest itself in the form of joint pains or rheumatism (which is common in the west).

I've seen people actually feeling worse and get hurt by acupuncture. Not everything is to be believed. Chinese medicine really is all word of mouth in which practitioner works. Some can detect whats wrong with you without even touching you.

Its like going to massage places. They will all give you massages, but not all of them will feel therapeutic.

TCM like acupuncture, which not all Chinese feel comfortable with.

Exactly. I've had TCM that helped and I've had TCM that hurt. Be careful what you use.
