A simple definition would be, Dui Lian is a Chinese traditional poem with only two sentences, and a short term to recapture the whole idea. The two sentences follow general structures of syllables, just like the meter used in an English verse. The two sentences should also follow the 'rule of pairs', referring to the meaning of individual words, simple nouns like 'Earth' to 'Sky', 'Fish' to 'Bird', as well as short terms like 'Flower falls' to 'Swan returns'. Dui Lian is normally pasted around the main gate of Chinese house (a.k.a 'Men Lian'), especially during the lunar new year, showing best wishes. examples:
风声、雨声、读书声,声声入耳; 家事、国事、天下事,事事关心。 _____________________________ 书山有路勤为径; 学海无涯苦作舟。 ______________________ 闲人免进贤人进。 盗者莫来道者来。 __________________ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
