Right, about me. I am male, 26 and from the UK. I want to come live in China and was thinking about doing one of those programs to teach English in China. I do not know enough about the different cities in China and was wondering if you could help me.

Firstly the question I would like to find out is where is the best place for music in China, I am interested in the music industry and have worked in the music industry so where are the major record labels based in China? That would influence my decision mainly. I also like technology, and new/modern style cities, I also like old architecture and history but would prefer new over old. I like sport (football) so a city with a football team to follow or good sporting facilities. I like to go out on my bike (where is it flat). Originally I am from a small seaside town but have recently been living in London, I like living in a big city but also love being by the sea. Not sure what else to say that would give a better idea of what is best for me.

Another question I would like to ask is who are the best company to go with in finding employment in China.

hongkong,shenzhen,or shanghai.Changsha is famed for its entertainment industry in mainland China
maybe beijing too,though i havent been there yet

teaching English in China? You'd better make sure that you have a secured job , before you come,or you can accept whatever job that is vacant . There are more and more foreign ppl coming to China to teach English ,to get a job is not that easy any more.

Thank you for the advice, I don't plan to go to China without a job. I will be looking to secure that before I go. I am being swayed towards Shanghai but there are so many good place to visit in China.

well,first of all,i hope my suggestions can help a bit.If i were you,i would like to choose Beijing.firstly,it's a historic and highly developed city(generally speaking).secondly,u must have listened the song <9 million bicycles>,and actually the number has timed thirdly,most famous universities are located in beijing.also,there are many language organizations where you can teach and the pay is good.(i think u may can find a such kind of organizitions easily)i dont know a lot about the music industry here. lastly,i live and study here.beijing is really worthy of ,at least,visiting.

I am really interested in Beijing and hope I can get a job there, Ideally I would like to go to Shanghai but Beijing is a close second. Hopefully I can sort something out soon.

well,it's a Chinese senior student here ,i hope my advice can be helpful.

1. you can make a part-time English teacher ,just like a tutor, better salary .i think .

the college doesn't suit you ,but you might as well inquire some high schools;to teach spoken english

in some wealthy cities is a good choice .


2.about music，i have really got nothing to suggest ,cause i don't know yet.


3.Xi'an is an city with long history ,absolutely old fashioned，and with a football team.

4.almost forget that Chang'sha is famous for its entertainment industry ,all kinds of vocal concert,
superstars .....really a modern city

5.i almost forget about Shang Hai, near to sea ，and one of the most wealthy cities in China.

For me, you are talking about Shanghai to me.

I don't live there but Shanghai is a big city with very modern culture. There is a football team and a basketball team as well in that city. But also the expense there is very high.

You will never know till you are there. Why not come a little bit early and try to adventure some cities for a few days.

There are already millions of "English" teachers in China. Why not consider Africa? There are plenty of musicians and rappers there.

for foreigners , the great choices for working is shanghai and hongkong , there are lots of facilities for foreigners , and most youngmen can speak more or less english, shopping ,medicine and food is plenty.
for studying, my suggestion is beijing , capital of china , and deep history.

here are 2 rooms available in my 3 bedrooms apartment, One is the main bedroom (25sqm)facing to the south,it has king sized bed,and 2 wardrobes/1 sofa/1 desk/air-conditioner/and a small coffee table!the price is 1900rmb/month.

want to be a english teacher in china,i guess its much more difficult right now. if you get one,you may not satisfied your salary. according to your demand, hongkong or hanghai maybe better for you.

I've browsed all the suggestions above. And i'll give mine.
I have stayed in Shanghai for 4 years and finally i left toward Beijing. So i think i'm qualified enough with both cities' state. Actually when i left Shanghai this Feb, i did the same as you to post in some forum online to get the suggestion about cities choices but my choices are just two,Shanghai and Beijing.
Firstly,if you are a music lover,i suggest Beijing. Beijing is famous for their cultural level and its inclusiveness. So there are so many live houses besides the pop junk concerts which exist in most of the big cities in China.Actually this is one of the reasons to head for Beijing. Here many outside music festivals are held every year,especially this time in the year.Shanghai is more modern,commercial and realistic city which is the paradise for shopping which i feel deeply about when i came in Beijing.
There are few places to go visiting if you go to Shanghai. But near Shanghai,Hangzhou is a great place to visit as Hangzhou is famous for its historical spots and low-speed lifestyle and beautiful scenery and girls.
Just my opinions and hope it will be helpful for you.
