Just I wonder if chinese people are racist. A black britrish told me it was quite difficult for him to meet people when he was in China. No girl comes to him whereas the situation is better for a white guy.lol

Your friends only see one side of Chinese People. Not all the people in China are very friendly the same as any other countries. There are a lot of black people in our school. Students in our school are friendly towards them.

I've been to China 11 times (many, many cities)and have just finished a 3 week visit there. I have never experienced any negative attitute or racist behaviour. In fact it is the complete opposite

Racialism is just as evil as Naziism in the eyes of Chinese people,we are educated that everyone is equal since our childhood.Maybe the girls you said is just feel strange to you.I've met a black in my school,he was finding his way,and his Chiese is quite fine^_^

If you go to Canton , you will meet a lot of foreigners like europeans and americans of course but a lot of indians, africains or arabs.

A lot of black people works and live there and they have not this problem.It is something new for chinese to see black people.

I agree with him. The character "shy" is accurate. In my mind, most chinese people are friendly to foreigners, they are honest, innocent and very shy when they meet strangers especially foreigners.
Frankly speaking, there are somne people like you said, but just few ones. There are some foreigners live around me, both white guys and black guys, I don't think they are treated differently.

All I can say is "Yes", of course , not all people in China discriminate black people, but most of them will choose a white guy instead of black people, see:

They will said "老外" (means foreigners) if they meat a white skin;
But they will said "黑鬼"(means black ghost) if they meat a black skin

Chinese people think the whiter they are the higher they are in class. Many Chinese people don't ever go in the sun. They carry umbrellas when they do. They look down at people who are farmers or others who do manuel labor .

I don't know where you from and I even don’t have any mind to check your profile, not interested in you at all – all of these just because of your stupid post you have made.

I am behalf all Chinese people to criticize you as you know nothing about the Chinese people but still making those rubbish comments on them. Based on your post you are not just a racist but also sexism - you look down upon the black people also Chinese female (may all human females).

It could be a culture different between west and Asia, but I hope that just your excuse. In the west, some people (but not all) too focus on the material things but overlook the spiritual communication. In their mind they only have the sex and money concepts but negatively look at human relations. Do you know that is a very shallow brain thought?

I know this one guy on Shanghaiexpat.com who was very bitter in his attitude towards the Chinese. His username was something like Chamflauge. If this is the "friend" you're talking about I suggest you ignore his comments since he is very very biased in his opinions.

We firstly the Chinese are not very curious about, well much. So dont take it personally if they do not find an interest in you. It probably has little to do with skin color, but they do prefer their own whitening creames.

In fact if you anything but Chinese( Or even Chinese from abroad.) they still will not be very interested. They are by culture introverted, that is not to say that some extroverts do not exist. I have met 2 since I've been coming to China in 2001.

Remember not all Chinese are the same. Think of Chinese like a membership to a club. While a Club may have many members and they agree on generalities, when specifics come they disagree quickly, as well as quietly.

I think that Chinese like black folks less than back home in the states. That might sound weird, but it seems that they might be interested, but in what way I cannot discern their motives.

Finally the Han Chinese are ethnically pure. Remember this. They have fought hard to keep or hide any Minorities in their families. To only like one type of person for 5,000 years can make you a bit xenophobic. (Example the Japenese.)

Having been to China 36 times over past 5 years I have found Chinese are racist, and not afraid to say racist things. It is not illegal to be racist in China that I know of. My wife says she do not like the black man because he smells so bad. In most cases she is referring to african, nigerian natives. I suggest they clean up their act if they want a Chinese woman. But they commonly express their openions openly about different foreigners, such as middle east, black, whites. Where as in western culture you can only think it. Nice to have freedom of speech right? In China you can have freedom of speech, western worlds especially USA you dare not express how you feel vocally of go to jail.
It is also ignorant for them as because the smell of a few has offended many. They also must realize not every black person smells, but it takes time. And not every black person is from nigeria, africa,etc...
Also I have noticed in Guangzhou there does seem to be a higher amount of Afircan, and nigerian people than other areas of China. Have seen more Chinese girls with these men so part of it also can be getting to know them. But to note I said to me Chinese wife their is Chinese girl, and black man, she replied she is sex girl and with him for money. So she being mainland Chinese she is saying probably what many mainland Chinese think, and probably say.
Bottomline is it will take time for the attitude to change. And if you keep good hygiene you may be ok.
One thing to note if you know USA culture, USA is very penis size conscious, everything on TV, radio, movies is about penis size. And we know the myth about blacks and penis, even in movie full metal jacket their is a part about the brothers penis being too big, in America this may be an advantage. In China most Chinese girls are afraid of bigger penis, and say it hurts. So it can be a disadvantage in China for that.
One more thing if you are just going to China to visit Chinese women are mostly very loyal, and when love someone it is forever. So why would you go there to just break a nice Chinese girls heart. Many are so naive kind hearted yound ladies, and I am tired of hearing stories of foreigners going into China telling every Chinese girl he loves her, has sex, then just leaves.
If you want that there are numerous sex girls in China that cost about $20 a night, this is cheaper, and more civil than humiliating a Chinese women. Besides you risk Chinese girl killing herself out of love, how is your conscious.
Some also just go there to video tape sex with Chinese girl and resale so Chinese girl be careful of some foreigners as many are not in it for love as you may be.
Just my opinion and how I see it, hope I did not offend anyone, just straight talk.

Hong Kong people that go abroad don't really like black people. They scared of their guns! They scared they rob them! They scared of their smell too! Maybe its becasue of the International News on how the US and Canada seems to have a shooting every week. And hearing myth stories on how you can just give a gun and US$100 and you can hire anyone to kill a person in Africa. So yeah usually whenever a Hong Kong uni student gets a Black to be his/her roommate they usually demand to change room!

And yeah Hong Kong parents will freak out and get pissed off if you bring back a black lover. Far more pissed off than if you were to tell your parents you're gay! So if you have a black lover and you're gay I assume you are no longer part of the family at all! So in a way you can say life is also difficult for the Chinese who affiliate themselves with Blacks sometimes.

But don't worry, you can always find open Chinese people. Most of the abuse is only verbal and emotional so they won't chase you beat you just for being black, nothing physical. So you can feel safe and actualy read the response on truely how that person feels about you, which is actually good to know.

I, have read through the posts, and i think that it is harder for any person of a different race or culture in moving to a country that is not their own. Chinese are a sracist as any other country. The fact that whiter skin is preferred is probably quite true, it is the same in india etc. White is often seen as more heavenly and black is related in most religions and cultures as evil. Many chinese are not well educated, in many areas of china they live in worse condition then others. China is a large nation obviously, in england some areas are richer then others, im sure the same rule applies. (More so in china as it was 50 years ago and in some parts still a third world country.)So they won't know about genetic and how prejudice in such ways is wrong. But obviously this is minimal and not all chinese so blind in discrimination.

I also heard some one saying it was legal for chinese to be racist and it was a freedom of speech. But that is rubbish, to inproach on someones liberties and freedom is against the law here, thus the liberty of using such words and being racist in such ways is banned as it affects others freedom. So freedom of speech to affect an others freedom is wrong.
