It's hard. This Chinese girl and her black American boyfriend both killed her parents after they disapproved of the relationship. It's due to the boyfriend's words, that convinced her to kill both her parents.

At least my parents are ok with it.

Most Chinese parents would feel terribly disappointed if their little girl end up with a low-class foreigner, especially if he's just a backpacker or school teacher - even if they try to hide their disappointment.

Chinese people are big on culture, tradition and having an heir to carry the family name. No half-breeds, thank you.

well, i can tell you what my parents think about me getting a foreign boyfriend. Actually, it is an answer from a what if question. When we were talking about my future, my parents mentioned something about their future son-inlaw. And they will NOT under any circumstance accept a foreign son-in law only because they are worry that they will have few chance to see me and my husband in the future. I guess this would be the worry that most parents worry about in china. I assume things would be easier if a foreiger decide to settle down in China. Any way, it just an opinion base on what my parents think. i have a friend who's parents are always mentioning about her finding a foreign husband so that they might have the chance to live abroad. who knows. It depends.

Interesting thread. It seems as if race is an important factor to many Chinese. Even my Sifu makes offhand comments about us white students and the majority Chinese students. They aren't necessarily bad comments, but there is always that distinction.

I think foreigners must be willing to accept their wife's culture. My aunt married a German, and he came to Canada, assimilated, learned English etc. Unfortunately, I get the impression alot of foreigners are over there using the women. It happens in every country. If my parents found out my sister wanted to marry a Persian/Turkish guy, they would be outraged because of the reputation they have here of using and abusing women. These guys are ruining it for all the foreigners who fall in love. tongue sticking out smiley
