Call for Application>>> MSc Programme in Advanced Environmental Planning Technologies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Academic Year 2013-14 Admission

The Master of Science Programme in Advanced Environmental Planning Technologies (MSc AEPT Programme) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was launched by the Center for Housing Innovations (CHI) of CUHK under the support of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), PRC. The Programme is offered in the Division of Faculty of Social Science of the Faculty of Social Science.
The Programme puts focuses on training students how to apply advanced and inter-disciplinary planning technologies, such as scientific simulation, urban remote sensing and spatial and temporal analysis, to deal with complex issues and challenges in urban and environmental design, planning and management. Students would be able to discover, evaluate, and analyze environmental problems facing China and other countries in Asia under the rapid urbanization process, and to respond with feasible solutions. The teaching quality of the Programme is constantly elevated through the supports and guidance from the honorary academicians of MOHURD and an international network of experts. The Programme wishes to promote the importance of scientific quantization and inter-disciplinary methodology in the field of urban and rural development, also to proffer innovative methodologies and thinking models for orchestrating the efficiency, livability and sustainability of urban habitat and environment.

Distinguished Features
 Integration of advanced technologies into urban design and environmental planning, in which scientific simulation, urban remote sensing and spatial and temporal analysis technology structure the three pillars of the Programme
 Renowned and experienced industry experts and policy-makers are invited to give guest lectures on low-carbon ecological urban planning and sustainable development
 Strong links with top academic and professional institutions in China and overseas (including University of Liverpool, UK and TU Graz, Austria), which offer students opportunities for international and professional academic exchange and further studies
 Research outputs of the pilot study on the experimental site co-established by CHI and governmental agencies are integrated into the courses and provide students with opportunities for practice

Overseas Studies
The Programme has established strong links with top academic and professional institutions in China and overseas, which offer students opportunities for overseas studies. In April 2012, students set out for an overseas study to Liverpool in UK. MSc AEPT students mingled with students from University of Liverpool, UK and Graz University of Technology, Austria to participate in a joint-university urban planning and design workshop at the University of Liverpool. This learning experience has cultivated students' multi-dimensional thinking and team spirit to implement the concept of sustainable urban planning and design under an interdisciplinary and multi-cultural collaboration. Students also had an exploration around Liverpool and other European cities, such as London, Scotland, Barcelona and Paris, to explore the local culture and architecture as well as the planning characteristics. In December 2012, a Visiting School to Taiwan will also be arranged, in which MSc AEPT students will travel with students from architecture and public policy backgrounds to conduct an overseas study and site survey. Students will learn together through lectures and workshops at major universities and city governments as well as site visits at local planning and design projects and architecture, in order to accumulate practical experiences in sustainable urban development.

Outstanding students will be offered scholarship and internship opportunities

 Professionals and government officers such as urban planners, landscape architects, architects, construction managers, infrastructure and facility managers, natural and urban resources managers, etc
 Graduates intending to pursue further studies in sustainable urban design and environmental management

Our Programme is a Taught Postgraduate Master of Science degree but NOT a bachelor degree.
