Hello everyone..

Beijing might be the easiest place for you to start, and then from there you can choose where to go after you have been to a few places. really depends what you want. If you want to see real China than a smaller city is a better choice but be prepared for problems and annoyances. If you want a big city with all the niceties of home but with still some Chinese aspect Beijing is good. If you want big City and Big Parties with a western atmosphere, Shanghai. Shanghai does feel a lot like New York City... beijing or shanghai i suppose.
easier for you to come but if you come here you'd have to visit beijing sooner or later lol. Shanghai..I think, But never trust those travel agency. They just tell you where to shop. Find some locals to be your guide, and you will know more culture about Shanghai. Frankypc Wrote:

Probably, Shanghai is the most popular one.there are some other cities having quite lot of foreigner too. Like hangzhou which is praised it's beauty by the travelers. But if you really want to know more about China life, you can have trips to the countrysides in different area after your coming. Ponpon Wrote:

LOL that's what happened to me in Wuhan when I had to go to the doctor....I was a horrible glutton with shrimp and I ate a lot of shrimp everyday and got sick and had to go to the hospital for a few days to get an I.V. dripping into my veins lol. Anyway, tons of people came by just to see the western guy. The doctor was happy cuz now he could brag to his peers that he treated a western guy, the younger nurses were nervous putting the needle in my hand so the older ones did it (which I was thankful for), and people constantly came around asking questions. My wife was annoyed and stopped talking to them lol. It was hilarious. Anyway I still say always start with Beijing and just go from there. It's always best to start in a country's capitol city except for the US. In the US I suggest starting in New York or Chicago first. Anyway my vote is start at Beijing...I think I said that enough times... Re: I'm planning to come to China, but not sure where...

As the capital, Beijing is a good choice. But the weather is not so comfortable to some extent. Re: I'm planning to come to China, but not sure where...

Most westerners will recommend u to Shanghai and Beijing. That's fine if you want to be in an "expat bubble" and do the things most foreigners do, hang out in the same bars, etc.
However, if you want a real immersion in Chinese culture, get away from the expat crowd. Chengdu is highly recommended as a centre of learning. Sichuan U is well known among locals. Chongqing is good, too. I have heard good things about Qingdao, too. Re: I'm planning to come to China, but not sure where...

Chengdu is a nice city with both characteristics of modern China and traditional customs, like the original scenic spots.Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing are also fine for their modern breath and many universities Edited 5 time(s).
