Has any of you been to the east coast as well?

I am planning for my trip to China in Dec. I need to figure out a route from Shanghai to H.K. for 2 weeks. I am debating whether I should fly straight from Shanghai to Yunnan and fly to H.K. OR go along the east coast from Shanghai south.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Yunnan with diversity in culture and landscape but am concern about the cold weather and the triangular route, which does not seem to make a lot of sense. I am not sure about the places along the east coast between Shanghai and H.K. as they seem to be wealthier and modernized. I’m originally from H.K. and currently reside in a big city.

Any advice?
