Potential complement with 得 and 不
A potential complement is formed with the structural particle 得 (de) inserted between a verb an a resultative complement. The negative form is made by replacing 得 with 不 (bù).
Examples:
- 我 看 得 懂 英文报。( I - read (do) understand - english newspaper : I can read english newspaper. )
- 我 听 不 懂 汉语。( I - listen (don't) understand - chinese : I don't understand chinese. )
- 我 买 得 到 这本辞典。( I - buy (do) achieve - this dictionary : I did buy this dictionary. )
- 我 来 不 了。( I - come (don't) be able : I can't come. )
