Vocabulary: Who's sitting there? Do you know where Tian'Anmen is? Conversation 1 : Who's sitting there?
Translation- Look, who's sitting on the right of Little Ma?
- Old Li. Have you seen my road map?
- Yes I’ve seen it, it’s on the table.
Conversation 2 : Do you know where Tian'Anmen is?
Translation- Do you know where Tian'Anmen is?
- In the city center. This is Tian'Anmen.
- Is the Forbidden City located to its north?
- Yes, the Forbidden City is located to the north of Tian'AnMen.
Conversation 3 : Where is the Capital Gymnasium?
Translation- Where (at what place) is the Capital Gymnasium located?
- Between the zoo and the library.
Conversation 4 : Are there some restaurants near the train station?
Translation- Are there some restaurants near the train station?
- Yes. You can say, there are restaurants everywhere.
- What is the place across from the train station.
- A hotel / restaurant, and there is a parking lot in front.
GrammarPhrase structureIn a sentence with 在 (zài) indicating existence, the subject is usually the person or thing concerned and the object is usually a noun denoting position or place.Examples:
- 故宫 在 天安门 北边。 ( the Forbidden City is to the north of Tian'Anmen. )
- 书 在 桌子 上边。 ( the book is on the table. )
- 我 在 他 右边。 ( I'm on his right. )
- 他 在 我和她 中间。 ( he is between me and her. )
Phrase structureIn a sentence with 有 (yǒu) 是 (shì) indicating existence the subject is usually a noun denoting position or place and the object is the person or thing concerned.Examples:
- 车站 附近 有 很多饭馆。( There are a lot of restaurant near the station. )
- 饭店 对面 是 停车场。( There is a parking in front of the hotel )
Some position words- 左 (zuǒ) : left / 右 (yòu) : right
- 东 (dōng) : east / 西 (xī) : west / 南 (nán) : south / 北 (běi) : north
- 前 (qián) : in front of / 后 (hòu) : behind
