Introduction

Xiamen University was founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, an overseas Chinese. It was the first university in the modern history of education in China founded by an overseas Chinese.

International students

Xiamen University warmly welcomes students from all over the world. Currently, more than 1600 overseas students are undertaking regular studies in the University. They both enjoy their lives and make great progress thanks to the excellent academic atmosphere on this beautiful campus, where with its powerful teaching staff and superb research facilities.

Campus

The University has a total campus area of over 538 hectares. The Main Campus on Xiamen Island has an area of 167 hectares; the Zhangzhou Campus is 171 hectares in area; and the Jimei Campus has an area of 200 hectares. With green hills behind and the sea close by, the three campuses are set amidst delightful scenery and are generally recognised as one of the most beautiful campuses in China.

Xiamen

Xiamen was recently voted China's cleanest city, and has many attractions for the tourist. Xiamen and its surrounding countryside provides spectacular scenery and pleasant tree-lined beaches. Gulangyu, also known as Piano Island, is a popular, peaceful weekend getaway with amazing views of the city.
