Yunnan University
Yunan University, founded in 1923, is one of the oldest comprehensive universities in Southwest China. In 1946, YU was listed among the 15 Chinese universities of world renown in the Concise Encyclopedia Britannica.
International studentsYU has accepted more than 15000 international students from nearly 30 countries and regions since 1986. In recent years, YU enrolls 550 international students each year. YU was honored as one of the Ten Key Universities Supporting Chinese Teaching in Bordering Countries." by the Development Center for Teaching Chinese a Foreign Language under the Education Ministry of China. In 2002, YU initiated the short-term training course for teachers of Chinese from overseas (mainly from Southeast Asian countries), and compiled Chinese language textbooks for Southeast Asian countries. The University has hosted many workshops for China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, in which hundreds of Chinese Language teachers from South Asia have been trained. Yunnan provinceYunnan is the most ethnically diverse province in China. As a home to 26 minority ethnic groups, Yunnan has colorful ethnic cultures. Due to its abundant natural resources, the province is renowned as the Kingdom of Animals and Plants, and the Kingdom of Nonferrous Metals. CampusYunnan University is located by the side of Green Lake in Kunming. Kunming is reputed as "The City of Eternal Spring " because of it mild weather without intense heat in summer and without bitter cold in winter.
