The text-to-speech freeware panopreter, which reads much better on Windows Vista than on Windows XP, will converts speech into wave and mp3 audio files. It reads in English by default, you have to install a Chinese text-to-speech voice engine on your computer, then it will reads in Chinese. it's good for your pronunciation and listening skill.

By the way, to get a natural reading, you'd better run panopreter on Windows Vista/7, because the Microsoft text-to-speech voice on Vista is much better than the voice on Window XP. And there is a Chinese voice of Microsoft Lily on Chinese version of Windows Vista, besides English voice of Microsoft Anna.

if you guys cant speak with a native chinese speaker i suggest try out www.chinesepod.com or www.popupchinese.com
both are very good.

both give you a week of free lessons to try out.
or you can just open itunes and search for either one of these in order to download many lessons for free.

Panopreter reads with default Microsoft voice on Windows. On Windows Vista, it reads with Microsoft Anna' voice, on XP it reads with Microsoft Sam 's voice, both voices are in English. You have to install a Chinese text-to-speech voice engine on your Window XP computer, then you will hear Chinese reading. You can search for Chinese voice on panopreter user interface, neospeech Chines voice is better, or search at this page

IF you install Chinese edition of Windows Vista/7 on your computer, there are two voices available, Microsoft Anna in English and Microsoft Lily in Chinese, Lily will read in Chinese Mandarin, you don't need to install other 3 party voice engines any more.
