Chinese poetry history

I have an open question of naïveté, I am interested in the process of the Japanese short poetry forms, and "how" they evolved from their Chinese shi origins, and, their Chinese comparatives to each style of the more modern version haiku, tanka, senryu, renku, haibun and the art-accompaniments similar to haiga.

My direction is to (after learning of these comparisons/history) do an article, or two ?, and possibly expand by showing examples (with today's Chinese poets offering examples for publication) or ?.... I would begin with a ijntroductory page-set in the Autumn/Winter 2010 issue of moonset.
