Purchasing a set of Mizuno MP-64 irons

Mizuno has a long heritage of producing good-looking, sweet-feeling forged irons. The Mizuno MP-64 Irons are designed to carry on the 'MP series' mantle played down the years by Seve, Faldo and Donald. An iron set with a low MOI, for example, has a greater tendency to fan open and produce a weak slice when it makes contact with a golf ball toward the club's toe.

The MP-64's will certainly tick a lot of boxes for the better player. The clubs have a very shallow cavity so they do offer a touch of forgiveness – but the main point of these irons is to deliver exceptional feel and more feedback. Long iron cavities are deeper than the Mizuno MP-69 Irons sale – ensuring that forgiveness is added where needed most.

The MP-64s may very well be the club destined to push them out of my bag for good thanks to their traditional look and superb, soft feel out of the middle. The softer leading edge can let you get away with the odd slightly ‘fat’ shot while in wetter, lusher conditions I found them much easier to use. They just feel amazing and the flight is fantastic with a tight dispersion. What they do give you is superb playability, feel, consistency and feedback.

Luke Donald put these in his bag to replace Mizuno MP-59 Irons thanks to their traditional look and superb, soft feel out of the middle. In Ohio for this week's Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, Choi paid a visit to a local Golf Galaxy where he tested several clubs in store before eventually purchasing a set of Mizuno MP-64 irons.

The real secret comes in the form of the sole grind. It features softer edges for consistent turf interaction, making the irons more playable. Mizuno’s overall tour grind is maintained, less defined edges produce more consistent turf interaction and distance control. They are targeted at low-handicap golfers with its "player's cavity" design. Cheap golf clubsmeans that while these are player's clubs, the forged clubheads do have cavities for increased playability. Stable, perfectly balanced weighting on full swings down to chips.
