The world's largest city square and enduring symbol of China's national pride, surrounded by many imposing buildings including the Heavenly Gate (entry to the Forbidden City), Museums, government buildings and Chairman Mao's Mausole
The Imperial Palace, home to 24 Emperors between 1420 and 1911. Great squares, halls and gates contrast with the intricate networks of side halls, gardens, courtyards and quarters for those who lived in this "city within a city".
Temple of Heaven
The place which was visited yearly by the emperors who performed intricate rituals to insure a good harvest for the whole nation at ancient times.
Great Wall (Mutianyu)
This less-crowded section of the Great Wall is a pleasant drive 90km NE of Beijing. A cable car takes you to a good section (avoiding a very steep climb), where you can walk along the wall, through the watch towers and enjoy superb views as it snakes across the hills and mountains. You can return by cable car, walk down or walk along the wall for about an hour to descend by chairlift. Wear good walking shoes and protection from the weather.
Guilin is regarded in China as the country's most picturesque city. Two crystal-clear rivers meander through the city, which are encircled by mountains with unusual & bizarre rock formations and caves.
Reed Flute Cave
5 kilometers away from the city center, famed as "A Natural Palace of Art", in which you can see lots of stalactites & stalagmites illuminated by the lights of different colors. You will also learn how they were formed.
Elephant Trunk Hill
At the confluence of Li River and Peach Blossom River in the southwest of Guilin city. It is a national 4A scenery spot. The Water Moon Cave is close to the river. The water flows through it and the cave looks like a moon floating in the water. The stone drooped into the water like an elephant drinking the water of the Li River.
Where you can see lots of Buddha statues left about 1000 years ago in the Returned Pearl Cave and have a birds' eye view of the whole city after climbing up to the very top.
Longji rice terraces
Longji means "Dragon's Backbone". When climbing to the top of it and looking down on the nearby terraced rice fields, you will have the feeling that you are standing on the dragon's back as the terraced rice paddies look like the shining scales of the dragon.
Li River Cruise
Along the river, you will be inspired by the breathtaking views of peaks and pinnacles, crystal-clear water and reflections in the water together with the serene pastoral views of rice paddies and water buffaloes.You will certainly feel like you are walking into a traditional Chinese painting by cruising on this wonderful river.
A busy and exotic slate street in Yangshuo County, about 2km long crammed with shops, pubs, cafes and hotels, where you can relax yourself and do some souvenir shopping.
Day by Day Itinerary
Arrival in Beijing: Your flight arrives in Beijing and you transfer to your hotel. After check in, the rest of the day is yours to accustom yourself or go out to explore the dynamic metropolis on your own.
Beijing (B,L,D): Depart from your hotel in the morning; you will enjoy a full day of sights seeing of hallmarks of Beijing: Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, Treasure Houses and the Temple of Heaven.
Tiananmen Square, the world's largest plaza in the world, has a capacity of 1 million people. It is an enduring symbol of China's national pride, surrounded by many impressive buildings including Museums, government buildings and Chairman Mao's Mausole. Passing through Tiananmen Gate, you will enter the splendid Forbidden City, the previous home, "city within a city", to 24 emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties for 600 years. Imperial architectures, intricate gardens, quarters and ornaments make it a must-see of China.
We will spend around half an hour at the Treasure Houses. Treasure house has undergone four renovations, and today is around 220 m². It contains hundreds of treasures, more than 440 of which that are on display in the Treasure Houses belonged to Qing dynasty royalty. This is indeed a very interesting place worthy of your attention.
Temple of Heaven, dating from the 15th century, was built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Temple of Heaven is decorated in blue, the shade of the Heavens. There, emperors presided at annual rituals for a national good harvest. Temple of Heaven is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Beijing (B, L): In the morning to, after a good breakfast, depart from your hotel to visit The Mutianyu Great Wall (with round way cable car) and an exterior visit of Beijing Olympic Stadiums (Bird's Nest and Water Cube).
Driving about 2.5 hours from downtown Beijing, you will get to the world-famous Mutianyu Great Wall. Riding a scenic round way cable car you will get to this best section of the Great Wall, which is less crowded and has better architecture. You can stroll and watch the spectacular views of the hills and mountains. Have with you walking shoes and protection from the weather.
Continue to exterior visit of Beijing Olympic Stadiums (Bird's Nest and Water Cube). It is a large area of 1,215 hectares, contains National museum, the Olympic Village and the Olympic competition avenues, which were constructed for 2008 Summer Olympic Games. You will explore the park, but it doesn't include going inside the Bird's Nest and Water Cube.
Beijing to Guilin (B, L): Today you take a flight from Beijing to Guilin; Arriving in Guilin, you will visit Reed Flute Cave, Elephant Trunk Hill and Fubo Hill.
Reed Flute Cave is named after the special reeds used for making flutes and pipes that grow at the cave entrance. The cave is very impressive and is considered the largest in Guilin, being 240 meters long. Along the 550 meters tour you will be amazed by the wealth of stalactites and stalagmites, stele, creating endless variety of stone pillars, stone curtains and stone flowers, birds, plants and animals in extraordinary shapes and colors. Along the route there are many stairs, so watch your step.
Elephant Trunk Hill, ('Xiangbishan'), is a 55 meters high hill, the symbol of Guilin. It proudly stands in the downtown area of Guilin city, a 3.6 hundred million years old creation of nature. Observed from a distance, you will see a life-like elephant form at the junction of the Li and Yang Rivers, with its trunk drinking from the clear waters. The hill is dotted with many pagodas, and the locals store rice wine in the caves at its base.
Fubo Hill is located at in the northeast of the Guilin city and on west bank of Li River and is known as the "Wonderland on Wave". It is 60 meters wide and 213 meters high above sea level, with half of the hill stretching into the river and half on land. Waves are curbed back wherever they meet the blocks, hence its other name "Wave-subduing Hill". At the southern foot of the hill is a garden full of bamboos, palm trees and flowers, a quiet beautiful place. From the top of the hill you can have a bird's eye view of Guilin city. According to the local legend General Fubo from the Han Dynasty once passed by Guilin on a southern expedition. He poured all the pearls he carried into the river, so the hill was named after him in his memory.
Guilin (B, L): In the morning, a two hours drive will take you to Longsheng. Longsheng is a fascinating scenic spot for tourism. It is famous for its enchanting scenery and several of colorful national minorities’ customs. Take a walk on the Dragon Backbone Rice Terraces. The Dragon Backbone terraced fields are one of the most beautiful and enchanted sights in the world. The rice terraces are built into the hillsides, and look like great ribbons winding round the curves in tiered bands, a true imposing beauty. After lunch you will have the opportunity to explore Zhuang and Yao minority villages that dot the area. After the tour you will drive back to Guilin.
Guilin to Yangshuo (B, L): In the morning, you will drive to the pier and take the Li River cruise to Yangzhou.
The Li River Cruise, which talks around 4 hours, is really an unforgettable experience. The Li River is a gem on China's tourist list of attractions and it is the highlight of any tour in Guilin. The scenery is stunning, and every turn in the river reveals something new and beautiful. You will be fascinated by the gently sloping peaks, green hills, peaceful farm fields, wandering water buffaloes and crystal clear water. The Li River is located amid steep peaks hung with waterfalls. Poets sang about this breath-taking site: "He who travels in Guilin hills finds himself in a fairyland", and "He who sails along the Li River finds himself boating in a sweet dream."
Yangshuo to Guilin (B, L): After breakfast you will escape to the scenic and quiet Yangzhou Countryside. Riding a bicycle is the best way to take a close look and experience China’s country life. The paddy fields, orchards, animals and fresh air will help you get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A family visit is an opportunity to see a real country life and talk to the local farmers. You will have your lunch at a restaurant in the West street, oriental but Western-influenced district where everyone can speak fluent English and every restaurant or bar offers menus including western food and traditional Yangshuo food in several languages. You are offered a Yangshuo Chinese Cookery Class at the local market; ingredients for the dishes are chosen by students, and back at the classroom you have an opportunity to learn three dishes and eat what you cooked and other favorite dishes at the restaurant.
Guilin to Beijing (B): Today you take a flight from Guilinv to Beijing and from Beijing you will fly back home or to your next destination; we are sure that you had a wonderful trip that you will remember for years and years!
